StewardBridge

A bridge for the small businesses about to disappear.

Problem

A generation of owner-operators is retiring with no successor, and their businesses — bakeries, shops, studios, practices — quietly evaporate. The default exit is closure.

Vision

A pathway that pairs retiring owners with the next generation of operators through fair, structured, non-extractive transitions. Stewardship instead of sale. Right now StewardBridge is just bones — a name, a site, a framework being worked out in the open. No capacity yet to actively support the mission; I'm getting my legs under me and watching what sticks.

Roadmap

  • 01Stand up the bones of the site and the public framing
  • 02Listen — informal conversations with owners, successors, and the advisors around them
  • 03Work out the kinks of the transition model on paper
  • 04Pilot only when there's real capacity to do it well

Lessons learned

  • 01The exit story we've been sold (PE rollups, liquidation) is one of many. Most owners want their thing to live on.
  • 02Early is fine. Pretending to be further along than you are is not.

Ways to contribute

  • 01If you're a retiring owner, an aspiring operator, or an attorney/CPA who's seen these transitions go right — I'd love to hear from you when the time is right.
  • 02For now, the best contribution is patience and a note. No pitch, no pipeline — just notes I can learn from.
